Experteer Overview

In this role you lead the Department of Psychology at ODU, guiding growth in research, teaching, and service. You will oversee operations, budget, faculty and staff, and degree program development, while promoting scholarly collaboration and faculty governance. You will recruit, mentor, and support faculty toward promotion, and address undergraduate and graduate student needs. This position combines administrative leadership with active research, contributing to the department’s mission within a Carnegie R1 context. A strong alignment with one of our Ph.D. concentrations offers a meaningful research focus.

Verantwortungsbereiche

Manage departmental operations including faculty, staff, budget, facilities, and teaching schedules
Support faculty recruitment, mentoring, career progression, and promotions
Oversee faculty evaluations and promotion applications
Provide leadership to enhance undergraduate and graduate degree programs
Address undergraduate and graduate student affairs issues as they arise
Represent the department internally and externally
Maintain an active program of scholarly activity commensurate with rank and administrative duties
Promote a culture of scholarly collaboration and faculty governance

Zentrale Anforderungen

Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field
Previously earned tenure with a research record sufficient for tenure at a Carnegie R1 university
Evidence of prior success in substantive academic leadership roles in a university department
