Senior Attorney

Description

We are looking for a dedicated Senior Attorney to provide legal representation to low-income tenants facing eviction and housing-related challenges in Bronx, New York. This role involves managing a dynamic caseload, advocating for clients in court, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support housing retention efforts.
Responsibilities:
• Represent tenants in non-payment and holdover eviction cases, ensuring their legal rights are protected.
• Advocate for clients in Bronx Housing Court and at administrative termination hearings.
• Prepare and draft legal documents, motions, and orders to show cause with precision and attention to detail.
• Conduct outreach efforts and lead educational workshops to inform the community about housing rights.
• Collaborate with caseworkers, paralegals, and other team members to provide comprehensive client support.
• Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with confidentiality and documentation standards.
• Participate in a structured four-week training program designed to enhance legal and procedural expertise.
• Provide guidance on housing law and public benefits to support clients in retaining stable housing.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• Minimum of one year of legal experience, with preference for candidates with two or more years or trial experience.
• Solid understanding of housing law and public benefits regulations.
• Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with strong organizational abilities.
• Proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
